Scope and Contents
Mississippi Springs, forty-five miles from Vicksburg. Writes: "I am getting well and soon expect to go to camp. Our company has been doing badly, five of them having died within the last three weeks. Besides nearly one half are sick. The Yankees have been bombarding Vicksburg steadily for the last three weeks. It was estimated that in three days they thre some fifteen thousand shells some of them fifteen inches in diameter besides some of their frigates have strafed our Batteries and joined the upper fleet....."
