Scope and Contents

This letter is in further reference to loan mentioned in item 5. Mr. Harrison states Mr. Purvis out of town, but it will be impossible for him to send any cash at present. He says "I have absent to the North Va. and Maryland & purchased a lot of slaves, which has consumed all my present means & we cannot collect any till our River rises and out clients ship cotton." Says Mr. Purvis' houses in New Orleans burned down recently and he will receive $3200 insurance, of which $2000 still owed on the houses. The balance of $1200 will be applied to the Hanson debt as soon as insurance settlement is received.
