Mentions plays and actors he has seen or who will soon be in Washington-- Edwin Booth, Salvini (Italian actor who played Hamlet in Italian!), Joe Jefferson as Rip Van Winkle. Mentions his mother who is recovering from pneumonia, a sister in New York who has recently lost two children, of diphtheria.
