Series VII: Artifacts, 1925, Undated
Scope and Contents
This collection contains manuscripts, photographs, ephemera and printed materials as well as artifacts. A large portion of this collection includes Civil War related manuscripts as well as printed and illustrated publications. There are several Civil War era newspapers including a rare copy of the Banner of the Ironsides published in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Additionally, there are muster rolls and information about Oncale’s ancestors who served as soldiers in the war. This collection has an assortment of postcards and stereoview cards that depict images of the Thibodaux, Houma, and New Orleans regions. There are a number of autographs and signatures of political and influential figures from Louisiana. Photographs and ephemera are included from the New Orleans and Thibodaux regions. There is a small portion of this collection that provides information on Claiborne Oncale, Sr., Wayne's father, and his service in WWII onboard the USS GUAM. Publications and ephemera from the schools which Wayne Oncale attended are also included.
Some translations, biographical information, and transcriptions are included in this collection and were created and/or submitted by Wayne Oncale or archives staff members and volunteers.
