Biographical / Historical
Roland M. Chiasson, 369-713, joined the Marine Corps in New Orleans on February 12, 1942 and was discharged in Bainbridge, Maryland on February 11, 1946. Chiasson served with the 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division and fought against the Japanese on Guadalcanal; disabled with malaria, jungle and parasites, Chiasson was sent back to the USA; subsequwntly, with restlessness in his body. Chiasson joined the 2nd Parachute Battalion at Camp Gillespie, CA just outside San Diego; when the paratroopers were no longer considered important to Pacific conquest, Chiasson became an original member of the Fifth Marine Division, serving on Iwo Jima with B-1-26th
