Scope and Contents
This collection covers 12 linear feet and spans 1949-2024 with the bulk of the materials dating 1967-1994. The collection contains files, scrapbooks and other related materials documenting the life and career of Coach Donald C. “Don” Landry. General files include correspondence and notecards congratulating Coach Landry on his various positions during his career in addition to letters of recommendation for those positions. Other files include newspaper clippings documenting various events. Additionally, there are sports related articles written by Landry. The photograph series includes photographs of Landry as well as the Lafayette baseball team and photographs of Basketball players at Nicholls State University. Scrapbooks in the collection were compiled and kept by Landry and document various events and activities during his career. Each scrapbook documents a different position held by Landry and contains photographs, documents, correspondence and newspaper clippings from each particular time period. One scrapbook contains articles concerning Landry’s self-published book on boxing. Three of the scrapbooks contain articles written by Landry from 1980-1987 for the Sports Lagniappe column in the Bayou Catholic, a newspaper published by the Catholic Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. The collection also contains reel to reel filmstrips and DVD’s of basketball games and interviews with Landry. Of note in the collection is a basketball playbook used by Landry while at Nicholls State University and a notebook of “Don’s Player Evaluations,” listing players with Coach Landry’s evaluations from 1961-1970.
