Scope and Contents
The Lefort addition (Group 2) consists of correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, financial, church, school, voter registration, and military records. Correspondence is divided into personal, professional, and cards. Personal correspondence includes letters from family and friends, with the bulk of correspondence between Elkins and his wife while he was stationed in Texas in 1943. Professional correspondence includes a letter from a military office concerning a family member. Cards include various greetings, sympathy, and Christmas cards. Photographs include pictures of Elkins, classmates, University of New Mexico buildings, trips to Wisconsin and Canada, baby pictures, and unidentified people. Newspaper clippings include articles of friends and an article written by Elkins. Financial records pertain primarily to Elkins’ personal finances including insurance policies, household receipts, service station receipts, bank mortgage statements and payments, tax records, and land royalties. Church, school, and voter registration also contain personal records for both Elkins and his wife including certificates, donations, programs, notes, grade reports, and correspondence. Military records include a certificate of recognition from the President of the U.S. and a personnel placement questionnaire from the War Dept.
