Biographical Note
Mary Jo Lazarus Gheens was the wife of Charles Edwin Gheens (1878-1961), owner of Golden Ranch Plantation (later the Golden Ranch Cattle Company) in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. The community of Gheens in that area is named for the Gheens family.
