Historical Note
The Knights of Columbus, Lafourche Council No. 1114 was granted a charter on 22 April 1906 for its sixty-nine members. The first meeting was held on April 29 in the St. Joseph's Hall near the old St. Joseph's church. Judge Louis P. Caillouet was elected Past Grand Knight to permit the council to function at the first meeting of the State Council, and Judge H.N. Coulon was elected first Grand Knight. The membership consisted of various local and state politicians in addition to the local working class. Their community involvement included sponsoring the formation of the Lockport and Cut-Off councils, building a grotto for the local church, providing scholarships to local Catholic high schools, raising money to support Catholic student centers on college campuses, sponsoring youth dances and banquets, and participating in sports tournaments at local and state levels. They also participated in various local charity drives and hosted summer recreation programs for the young people in Thibodaux.
