Joseph C. Dupont Journal Typescript
Scope and Contents
This collection comprises the edited typescript of a travel journal kept by Joseph C. Dupont in 1924, along with a foreward by the editor (A. L. Diket), a report by a historian (Philip D. Uzee) and a family tree. Dupont recorded visiting Cuba, Spain, France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, and England, as well as his voyages on the De La Salle and Leviathan. The journal describes the architecture, food, people, entertainment, climate, geography, and other cultural aspects Dupont encountered. He frequently makes comparisons between various features of Europe and Louisiana, as well as occasional observations on the post-World War I state of different countries and towns. Dupont was accompanied on the trip by his wife Alice Burguieres Dupont, whom he mentions often throughout the journal.
