Biographical / Historical
The Lafourche Parish Committee of the Louisiana Civil War Centennial Commission was created in July of 1961 and chaired by Jeffrey J. LeBlanc in order to promote public awareness of the 100th anniversary of the Civil War. This committee was responsible for distributing pamphlets, sponsoring essay contests, establishing historical markers, preparing exhibits, and staging reenactments. In 1963, the committee commissioned the John B. Vinet Camp, the Orleans Artillery, the Crescent City, various Port Hudson units, and the Louisiana Tigers to reenact the Battle of Lafourche Crossing near Thibodaux, La. After fulfilling its responsibilites, the committee was disolved in 1965 by a resolution of the Lafourche Parish Police Jury.
