Scope and Contents
This collection contains covers three linear ft. and spans 1925-2007, with the bulk of material dating 1925-1934. The collection includes canceled stock certificates, meeting minutes, a succession record, notarized statements, correspondence, an account service ledger, a collections ledger for Louisiana Power & Light Co., and an article on the company’s beginning in Terrebonne Parish.

Historical Note
Lockport Light & Power Co. Inc. serviced south Louisiana towns including Bourg, Bowie, Cut off, Galliano, Golden Meadow, Grand Caillou, Houma, Lafourche, Larose, Little Caillou, Lockport, Mathews, Montegut, Raceland, Rita, and Thibodaux. The company began selling stock in 1925 and started operations in 1928. J.C. Bertrand began serving as its general manager in 1926; W.D. Thompson served as secretary and treasurer; P.H. Kurzweg served as acting secretary; and A.H. Thompson served as president.
The Federal Public Service Corporation of New Orleans took control of the company in 1929. In December, 1934, it transferred all stocks to the American Utilities Service Corporation in fulfillment of a plan of reorganization after declaring bankruptcy.
Lockport Light & Power Co. was completely dissolved on December 30, 1935.

This collection is arranged chronologically. The contents of volumes 3 and 4 have been removed from their original bindings and placed in file folders for preservation. These bindings are stored in Box 3.
