Biographical / Historical

Clarence J. Bourg was born in Thibodaux, La. on August 11, 1893. He graduated from The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. with a Master of Arts in History. During his time in Washington, he served as secretary to Congressman Whit Martin. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWI, serving as a French interpreter in General Pershing's headquarters in France. Following his military service, Bourg graduated from Georgetown University Law School and then joined Howell, Wortham and Bourg Law Firm in Lockport, La. He later helped organize the American Legion in Louisiana and became its state adjutant. In the 1920s, he became a partner in Montet and Bourg Law Firm in Thibodaux, La. On 20 August 1929, he was named manager of the Washington office of the newly formed American Sugarcane League. Bourg died 28 December 1953.
