Scope and Contents

This collection consists of a map showing the townships and natural resources in Acadia Parish, Louisiana that was designed to attract emigrants in the late 1800s; a 1904 map of the Alluvial Valley of the Mississippi River from the head of the St. Francis Basin to the Gulf of Mexico; a map showing Ollie Canal and railways to New Orleans markets in 1913; and a handwritten index relating to information about the Civil War and veterans of the Confederacy.

Biographical / Historical

John W. Minnich fought in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, was captured, and then imprisoned at Rock Island Prison in Illinois for eighteen months from 1863 to1865. He later served as a judge in the state of Louisiana circa late 1800s - early 1900s.
