Biographical / Historical

Richard D'Alton Williams was born in Dublin, Ireland on 8 October 1822. As a young man, he studied medicine and wrote poetry, publishing his poems under the nom de plume of "Shamrock." In 1856, he married Elizabeth Connolly of New Orleans and moved to Baton Rouge, La. In 1857, Williams moved his family to Thibodaux, La. where he continued his literary career, writing full time for the local press. Williams died on 5 July 1862.
