Scope and Contents
This collection, spanning 1940-2006, covers 2 linear feet and contains some of Basset's school records from F.T. Nicholls Junior College. Manuscripts include diplomas, student cards, certificates, invitations, programs, assignment schedules, announcements, and his obituary. Volumes include two La Pirogue yearbooks (1949 and 1950), one alumni directory (2003) and 16 textbooks used by Basset while in attendance at college.

Biographical Note
Marion Joseph Basset was born 10 December 1922 to Paul Charles Basset and Augusta Earline Richard. He was the grandson of J.L. Basset who operated a mercantile business in the Thibodaux area from 1882 to 1942. Basset served in the U.S. Army Air Force as an aircraft mechanic from 1942 to 1946 rising to the rank of corporal. He was in the first graduating class at F.T. Nicholls Junior College in 1950 where he studied secretarial science and general business. He later worked as a bookkeeper for Carl Mire & Sons. Basset died 6 April 2006.
