Scope and Contents
This collection consists of St. Matthew's history, anniversaries, baptism and marriage records, building renovations, canvassing campaigns, correspondence, diocesan policies and conventions, meeting minutes, school records, photographs, and church bulletins/programs. It also contains information on the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and St. Matthew's interaction with other Episcopal churches in the diocese.

Physical rights are retained by Nicholls State University. Copyright is retained in accordance with U.S. copyright laws.
Historical Note
St. Matthew's Episcopal Church was chartered in 1855 in Houma, La. with Rev. Moses E. Wilson elected as its first rector. The church building was constructed in 1858 on land donated by Robert R. Barrow and consecrated in June of that year. In 1970, the church organized and incorporated St. Matthew's Episcopal School, and created its well-known Children's Choir in 1975. The church was destroyed by fire on 11 November 2010.
