Biographical / Historical
William Littlejohn Martin was born 22 May 1895 on Albemarle Plantation in Assumption Parish, Louisiana to Robert Campbell Martin III and Ellen Rebecca Young. W.L. Martin graduated from Louisiana State University in 1915 with a degree in Agriculture. He moved to Thibodaux, La. shortly after and became partners with his brother, Charles, in ownership of the local Ford dealership. Both W.L. and Charles joined the armed forces during WWI for one year. Upon their return, they opened a Chevrolet dealership in Thibodaux, finally retiring 30 June 1959. Upon his retirement, W.L. followed one of his lifelong interests and began compiling a history of Lafourche Parish. Martin died 5 August 1965.
