Historical Note
The Woman's Club of Thibodaux was formed on 29 April 1922. In January 1923, its members opened Thibodaux's first library above the old city hall, which closed temporarily in 1926, and then reopened in 1928. In 1947, they successfully petitioned state legislators to establish a demonstration library on Seventh Street that eventually became permanent with funding from a parish tax. Since the club's inception, it has sponsored college scholarships, charity and welfare work, organization of tours of local homes at Christmas, and various civic and cultural projects. They also played a part in starting Thibodaux's school lunch program. In 1972, the club designed an official seal for the city of Thibodaux and presented it to the mayor on April 23rd.
