Scope and Contents
This collection covers 11 linear feet and spans 1999-2013 with the bulk of the materials dating 1999-2001. The collection is comprised of eight binders of correspondence, documents and other related records and materials from the Keep Our Peaceful Environment, L.L.C. (KOPE) community organization of Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes. The correspondence includes letters written to and from local and state governmental agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and officials and politicians regarding KOPE's opposition to the building of a dirt race track in Terrebonne parish. Also available are public comments and notices, press releases, memorandoms, resolutions, letters to the editor, newspaper clippings, articles of organization and copies of KOPE's newsleter, The Eagle's Eye. All of the binders are arranged chronologically.
There are two additional binders arranged chronologically, which contain correspondence, documents and other information related to an interstate natural gas pipeline located under the site of the proposed dirt car race track.
A transcript and register of the Department of Environmental Quality Water Permit meeting which occured on December, 7, 2000 is included as part of the organization's records.
The two scrapbooks available contain, newspaper clippings, photographs and documents which detail the work of the organization.
Miscellaneous ephemera related to KOPE including an oversized plot plan of the proposed race track site is part of the collection.
