Biographical / Historical
The German-Acadian Coast Historical & Genealogical Society was established in 1979 to promote genealogical research and preserve the history of the River Parishes region of Louisiana, including St. Charles, St. James, and St. John the Baptist parishes. The Society originated from an informal meeting organized by genealogist Fay Walker Louque at the St. Charles Parish East Bank Regional Library in Destrehan on June 25, 1979. Following a second meeting in LaPlace on July 25, 1979, the organization was formally named and officers were elected. Since its founding, the Society has encouraged genealogical research, family history preservation, and the study of the German and Acadian heritage of the region through meetings, educational programs, publications, and the collection of genealogical and historical information.
