Hector J. Chiasson Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of black and white photographs of Hector J. Chiasson's days as a lumberman, a plaque commemorating his life, and photocopies of correspondence, tax notices, baptismal certificates, invoices, receipts, and death notices belonging to Chiasson during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Biographical / Historical
Hector J. Chiasson was born on 23 September 1887 in Thibodaux, La. to Surville Chiasson and Melodia Boudreaux. He worked primarily as a lumberman harvesting cypress tress for large lumber companies in Louisiana and Florida. In addition to logging, Chiasson earned a living through trapping, fishing, hunting alligators, and raising small Mobilian pet turtles. He married Helen Rodrigue of Chackbay, La. They had two sons: J.V. and Roland. Hector Chiasson died 5 November 1945.
